Art Directors Club     ︎       ︎       ︎

We helped …

·      Adobe introduce InDesign.
·      Getty Images introduce stock photography.
·      Aquent introduce itself to talent and clients.
·      YouTube introduce itself as an advertising platform.

I founded and ran the development department for the Art Directors Club, a members-driven organization that promotes excellence in advertising, design, and communication. In the process, we financed the Club by leveraging our reputation and connections for companies including Adobe, Eastman Kodak, Getty Images, Aquent, and YouTube.

Black Shadow      ︎        ︎       ︎       ︎

It took a year for father and son Jay and Mark Eisenhofer to write “Black Shadow,” their debut science fiction novel. They wanted to invest a year promoting the book as well.

The year was 2020 — a science fiction story all its own. Schools and bookstores were closed, but kids had plenty of time to read. We reached them via Free Little Libraries up and down the Eastern Seaboard. We called attention to the books with bookmarks in the libraries on social media. A modern-day golden ticket.

We honored the idea that inspired the novel: Mark’s comment that the best characters are “a little bit good and a little bit bad.” We shared this as a novel that inspires superheroes and supervillains.

We established, populated, and left an evergreen presence for Black Shadow on Amazon, iTunes, Goodreads, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and BlackShadowAdventures.com.

The Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) NY first annual “Women of Hope” fundraiser was held virtually on November 19, 2020. The event introduced scholars and collegians in conversation with Poppy Harlow, performing dance and spoken-word pieces.

We supported BHGH to produce the event, manage calendar listings, engage the committee, and raise funds. We created and populated social media accounts, updated the website, trained and inducted staff and a committee to join our social media campaign as promotional soldiers, and produced the pre- and post-show.

We raised over $140,000 to reestablish the female residential component of Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York.

“Alison is a terrific resource. She rolls up her sleeves, becomes a team member, and provides ideas, feedback, guidance, and is action-oriented. She makes and impact through her dilignce in making us successful. I really can’t say enough about her support and, most of all, her effectiveness.”

—Joe Patuleia, Director of Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York

BYkids      ︎       ︎       ︎

BYkids teaches kids to tell stories in camera. Films air on public television, and are shared by teachers in classrooms with a supporting curriculum.

We also wanted to reach kids before school, afterschool, weekends and summer.

This PSA illustrates implicit bias in seconds, where kids are:  the internet.

Who among us does not complete the sentence as we imagine? We all need to work to overcome our rush to judgement, particularly online.

This social experiment, from Cynthia Herrli and Diana Bosniak shows each of us that we share the problem. Together -- we can work to the solution.

On April 10th, 2017 New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a law inspired by the “Raise the Age” movement and New York is now raising the age of criminal responsibility to 18 years old, no longer prosecuting and incarcerating 16- and 17-year-olds as adults.

When Michael Martin got arrested at age 17, this law did not exist. As a result, a judge sentenced him to jail time on Rikers Island.

In crafting I Could Tell You ‘Bout My Life, Michael recounts events that led to his incarceration. He describes being bored, “hanging with the wrong crowd” and interviews his 64-year-old grandmother about raising five children in a single bedroom, East Harlem apartment.
